Services / Cost-Down Engineering

Lower unit costs. Equal or better function.

We systematically reduce the cost of existing drive systems — through redesign, value engineering and alternative sourcing. The lever is engineering knowledge: we understand why a drive costs what it costs, and which function actually needs that money.

What you get

The same function. A better price. Proven.

Teardown, redesign and requalification — the drive you already build, engineered to what it should cost.

From teardown to a proven, cheaper drive.

Teardown

What your drive really costs

We take your drive apart and price every component bottom-up — materials, processes, tolerances, assembly. The result is a ranked list of levers: which measure saves what, at which risk.

You receive — Should-cost breakdown per component and a ranked list of levers

Redesign

Same function, lower cost

The biggest savings come from redesign, not renegotiation: alternative topologies, materials and tolerances wherever the function allows it. We are technology-open with no product line of our own to defend — so the comparison stays honest.

You receive — Redesigned parts with the cost effect quantified per drawing

The same gear housing twice — machined aluminium and moulded polymer
Proof

Proven equal — before it enters your product

Every changed part goes back to the test bench: performance against the original, lifetime against the real load spectrum. Nothing ships on the promise of being 'equivalent' — you get the evidence.

You receive — Equivalence report — cost-down version vs. original, on the bench

Second source

Supply security included

For critical components we qualify a second source alongside the redesign — audited, sampled, approved. Supply security and negotiating room, in one move.

You receive — A qualified second source with approved samples

Business case

A decision you can defend

You decide on numbers, not promises: savings per unit, one-off invest, break-even volume and the risk — per measure. Quick wins ship early while deeper redesigns are still in qualification.

How it connects

cost-down draws on everything we do: the engineering depth of custom development, the qualified alternatives of our sourcing network, and the test benches that prove equivalence.

How we deliver it — analysis and redesign happen in Austria; alternative parts and processes come from our qualified network in Asia. Requalification runs against your original specification, and DRIVS takes responsibility for the result.

Who you work with

Cost-down is engineering work.

Your teardown is not handed to a purchasing team — it is run by the same engineers who design drives from scratch. You discuss levers, risks and trade-offs directly with them, in German or English, and every measure comes with its technical reasoning.

Start small

Start with a teardown.

Send us your drive — or its BOM and drawings. You get a first cost assessment: the levers we see, each with an estimated saving and its risk. Happy to sign an NDA first.
